Materials from the joint seminar “Water and nature on the both sides of Gauja/Koiva River: towards joint management” (30.09.2013)

The main objective of the seminar: to introduce and discuss the results of two Estonia–Latvia programme 2007-2013 financed projects “Towards joint management of the transboundary Gauja/Koiva river basin district” (NR EU 38839) and „Tuned nature management in transboundary area of Estonia and Latvia” (NR EU 38806) by:

  • providing an overview on the ecological status of rivers and lakes in the Gauja/Koiva river basin district and the quality of coastal waters in the Gulf of Riga;
  • introducing with nature assets of the transboundary areas of the Gauja/Koiva river basin district and practical measures carried out to restore habitats and species populations.

September 27:  the first day of the seminar – experts from Estonia and Latvia presented the data and results gained within the projects about the ecological and chemical quality in the Gauja/Koiva river basin district as well as about the river management measures in the border region.

September 28: the second day – seminar participants participated in the site visit in the Northern part of Gauja river basin and attended the places to see the human impact to the water resources. They visited newly opened fish migration route on the river Līgatne, river Rauza and one of its cleaned stretches, Palsmane watermills’ HPS and the Seda bog.
